When the excitement of Christmas and New Years have died down and its back to work for most of us, January can be a very slow month. It’s easy to feel deflated after a month-long celebration but that’s no reason to stay home and sulk. There are plenty of great activities in Dublin over the Winter months to keep you active and entertained, here are some of our favourites:

Hiking

January is a great time to detox your body, exercise more and explore parts of the city you haven’t seen before. Who not arrange a group of friends and explore one of Dublin’s great walking trails. Get out of the city and fill your lungs with clean Dublin Mountain air, walk along the stunning cliffs of Howth or the pier in Dun Laoghaire. When you’re done walking, go back to the village and enjoy a well-deserved pint or bag of chips by the sea. The exercise will reinvigorate your body and mind, giving you that boost you need to get you through the dark months.

Shopping

Not specifically a winter activity of course, but January is a great time to nab a bargain in the winter sales! Sure, you could shop online from the comfort of your couch but there’s nothing quite like a last-minute, spontaneous shopping trip when the sales are in full swing. The closest shopping centre to Aspect Hotel Park West is Liffey Valley, which just happens to be one of the best in Dublin. It’s full of high-street favourites who are all hosting sales and clearance events at this time of year. Retail therapy is sure to cheer you up!

Cinema

When the sun is shining, and the evenings are bright, it feels like a shame to waste the good weather indoors. That’s why winter time, especially January, is a great time to go to the cinema and see the biggest movies of the year without feeling like you’ve wasted a nice day. Cinema isn’t just sitting in a dark room being immersed in a film anymore, modern technology means 3D and 4D, IMAX, recliner chairs and having dinner served to your armchair while you watch! Our closest cinema is Vue in Liffey Valley Shopping Centre but if you want to venture into the city, Rathmines has a beautifully restored vintage movie theatre and diner called Stella Theatre which is great for a real treat.

Pub

There’s no denying the weather at this time of the year is exactly zero fun. Dark mornings and evenings can make it hard to keep spirits high and a lot of people start diets and give up alcohol too. We think January is miserable enough without the torture of ‘Dry January’ and Dublin’s many and various pubs definitely agree with us! There are some fantastic events around the city like Reggae Sundays in The Turks Head, live music every night in Temple Bar and culminating in a fantastic Tradfest in numerous locations around the city from 21st-27th January. Check out the numerous events and buy tickets for Irelands largest festival of Traditional Music on their website.

January needn’t be a boring month, a trip to Dublin and a stay in the great value Aspect Hotel Park West will make sure your January is a month to remember. To make a booking or for more information call our friendly reservations team today!
