    Dublin’s Great Outdoors

Dublin is well known for its fabulous Georgian buildings and its fascinating array of museums and castles to visit but Ireland is known as the Emerald Isle for its greenery and natural beauty. Nature does not stop on Dublin’s doorstep, however, here are some highlights of Dublin’s great outdoor activities.

    Phoenix Park

The Phoenix Park is the largest enclosed park in the whole of Europe and it is located just outside of Dublin’s City Centre. It is an astounding 1752 acres, twice the size of Central Park in New York. It is  home to Dublin Zoo, the Papal Cross and 24 full sized sports fields among many other features. The President of Ireland also lives in the park. He lives in the beautiful Áras an Uachtaráin, Ireland’s miniature White House.

    Ticknock

Ticknock is an area in the Dublin Mountains, only a 20-minute drive from Aspect Hotel Park West and there are plenty of outdoor activities to keep you satisfied. Ticknock offers 10km of scenic walking routes with some of the best views of Dublin City, Dublin Bay, Bray head and the Wicklow mountains. The area also has an 8k circular mountain biking route and 3 orienteering courses. With all of this on your doorstep, you have no excuse not to get out and enjoy the great outdoors.

    Tibradden Wood

Another a 20-minute drive away and you’ll land at Tibradden Wood, the home of Zipit. Zipit is a treetop activities course with 91 activities, 655m of zip line and covers 1.8km of treetop activities. This activity is great for families, groups or individuals who want to feel the breeze as they zoom through the treetops! There are three courses so you can choose your ability level. The courses are surrounded by the stunning surroundings of Tibradden Wood so you can enjoy a leisurely walk afterwards.

    Mount Pelier Hill

If you fancy a short but very pretty walk visit Mount Pelier Hill. There are a variety of short walks and forest trails and there is a lovely view of Dublin South-West from the summit. There is an old hunting lodge at the top of the hill which is said to be haunted. The ‘Hell Fire Club’ is said to be an exclusive satanic gathering where the devil himself is supposed to have appeared and spooked some card players. Have some fun scaring your friends and family while enjoying the fascinating surroundings.

    Kayaking Around Dalkey

If you prefer to be lost at sea than lost in the forest, Kayaking is a great option for a fun-filled and active afternoon. Dalkey is beautiful on the ground but absolutely stunning when viewed from the water, especially in the evening, around sunset. Tours with Kayaking go every day from Bullock Harbour and the three-hour guided tour is suitable for complete beginners as it goes at a leisurely pace.

Take advantage of the warmer weather and the long, bright evenings while they last. Get out and enjoy the great outdoors! No better place to start or end your fun-filled day out in the open than Aspect Hotel Parkwest.
