    Friday 15th March is the first day of the St Patricks Festival and the lead-up to the main event on Sunday. There are dozens of fun activities and things to do in Dublin every day during the festival, you just need to know where to look. On Friday, it’s a tame start with three themed theatre events and a museum exhibition exploring the history and culture of Ireland. Check The Abbey Theatre, Grangegorman Concert Hall and The Complex for more information and to book tickets. National Museum of Ireland Decorative Arts & History have a fascinating exhibition of Irish artefacts from the past and there is an interesting history walking tour taking you through the city in the footsteps of St Patrick. The Guinness Storehouse is hosting a spectacular outdoor gallery featuring works by six artists which launches in Dublin 8 on 15th March.

    16th March 2024

    The Festival Quarter opens on 16th March with a jam-packed schedule of free and ticketed events over the long weekend. There will be a Main Stage, performance spaces, relaxation areas, a mini-funfair and the Irish Food and Craft Village and all daytime events are free of charge. It opens from 12-5 pm. Join the amazing team from Tumble Circus for a circus cabaret extravaganza for all the family to enjoy from 12.30 to 1.15 pm. You can enjoy dancing from other cultures with Afro dance workshops, Bollywood dancing and Grooveline. Cultúr Club is back at 5 pm on 16th March at St. Patrick’s Festival 2024 for a very special night of live music, queer performance, and art. The city funfair comes to Custom House Quay from 11 am – 9 pm on Sat & Sun and 11 am – 8 pm Mon.

    17th March 2024

    The St Patrick’s Day Parade is the main event on Sunday 17th March and is attended by thousands who come from far and wide to witness this spectacle. Bands, dancers, performers, singers artists and production teams make up the 4,000 parade participants who come from all over the world to celebrate all things Irish on this special day. The entire parade is free to attend but the streets fill up quickly so make sure to get there early to get a good viewing place. The Céilí Mór is a free large-scale outdoor, bilingual event which celebrates traditional Irish dance, language, and music in the festival quarter from 3 pm. There are theatre events, live music performances, Irish dancing, street performers, spoken word shows, exhibitions and so much more on St Patrick’s Day you won’t know where to go first!     The fun doesn’t end on 17th March. There are still dozens of events to look forward to on Bank Holiday Monday. Guinness is promising a fun-filled weekend in the storehouse with music, dancing and performance as well as their usual entertaining tours. Irish Film Institute is showing a very special Dublin-themed movie called North Circular with a live cello to accompany it. There are musical theatre and performances for under 5s in the National Museum and the Festival Quarter doesn’t close until 5 pm with a great lineup expected.
